I attended the Asian Television Awards Showcase and Superpitch yesterday!
It was held at the Pan Pacific hotel!
Almost all the DMC year 2s were there.
Students in the TVSM elective, from Diploma plus in digital film, from SPACE, from OneDegree.
That's a lot of people!
Plus the year 3 interns from SPACE.
I had a bad tummy ache the day before so initially I was hesitant about going.
Plus my whole family went to Malaysia for a day trip.
Without me. Boo!
Sigh. School.
Anyway, there were different genres.
I got assigned to the documentary section, with the diploma plus students.
Esther and the rest went to creative formats.
I initially thought I'd be very bored, so I was disappointed.
But it turns out, all the documentaries were interesting! And really sad :(
It was a showcase of all 4 documentaries nominated for the best documentary.
The first was a documentary about the Highland Towers collapsing in Kuala Lumpur in December 1993. How did the family members feel about the loss of their loved ones, what we're their emotions, etc.
The second was about the Japanese earthquake in 2009. The director was in a small town interviewing a high school girls softball team cos he wanted to show how they managed to survive after the 2007 earthquake. And, by a funny coincidence, he was there when the earthquake occurred.
The third was about child labour in Bangladesh. It was for a reality/talkshow called 101 East.
And the last was about the tsunami in Japan this year. It followed the lives of 3 different families in Japan after the tsunami.
All the documentaries were so sad and touching. The directors presented a short clip and explained what the challenges were in shooting the documentary and how did they manage.
By the time the last documentary aired, I was damn sad.

The buffet line!
And after the showcase ended, there was a buffet waiting for us!
It was awesome. There was Salmon, prawns, chicken, mixed vegetables. And the rice was great! Some Arabic delight! It was very light, in terms whereby after eating it I didn't feel bloated!
Then we returned to our rooms and listened to 6 different pitches for the documentaries!
And the one that I felt was the most touching one was the one about Fukushima.
The director wanted to bring across the surviving spirit of the residents.
Despite the clear threat of radiation poisoning, they still return to their village.
All or their spiritual belief, the Samurai Soldiers.
I shall not divulge too much here, but it is a really good pitch.
After the ATAs, I went to find Esther and the others at Marina Square. Their pitches ended earlier than mine.
Speaking of the ATAs, I need to tell you guys Perry's really lame joke.
We were seated, and he had a coffee cup in his hand. Really atas. So he said. "Do you know why it's so atas? Cos we're at ATAs."
Sigh.
Anyway! We walked around Marina Square and had a lot of fun, then we headed to town to find Weiming!
We got gongcha, and contemplated where to eat for a while.
I really enjoy having XLBs with these group of people. They make dinner fun! :D
Waited for Kelvin and had dinner at Din Tai Fung, and had drinks at the German bar at 313@Somerset! I can't spell the name of the bar lol.

Anyway, that was my second last day of school! I'm hoping today will be even better ;)
PS, I'm typing this on my way to MLE, If there are any typo errors please forgive me!
Very Nice chocolate cake and ice cream ~
My very cute beer~ Haha it wasn't bad.
