Mobiles and their paraphernalia

So the new iPhone 5 has been released in Singapore (Quite long ago but I haven't got around to blogging about it hehe)
Went to take a look at it with the best friend at ION, after we decided to do lunch at Watami :)
It really is extremely light, and clearer screen,  but more about that later :) (below this chunk and a video haha)
I updated my 4S to iOS 6 and now it's extremely sad.
A lot of apps haven't updated to become iOS 6 compatible and they're crashing.
Actually it's just one. Rather important one to one's social life now...
Just this icon and everyone already knows what the app is called!
Just for those of you living under a rock (or using a Nokia 3310 haha, or in the Army!), it's called Instagram!

Anyway...
This video just popped into my mind as I was typing this entry! I know that the phone has been released, but this was BEFORE any announcements were made so I was extremely curious! I got this link from Nat Ho's twitter here.
HAHA! The video was so serious I honestly thought it was a real announcement.

Anyhoo, for those of you people who haven't updated to the iOS 6, I'd suggest for you not to.
Let me list out the perks of the iOS 6 (Speaking from the point of view of a 19-year-old social media addict)

PROS of the iOS 6:

#1 Twitter and Facebook are now inbuilt into the notifications panel, you can link your accounts straight to your iPhone and it'll work! -note: if you're like me and reads news feeds and checks the timeline, then this is useless!

#2 Siri now can give you directions in Singapore! -note: only for the 4S users, and your pronunciation needs to be great. Siri understood me but not my dad, when we both tried 'Ang Mo Kio'. English names like 'Marina Square' is easy.

I've decided to change the title to CHANGES, cos I don't really like the update HAHA.

CHANGES IN THE iOS 6

The 3D is on the left, and non-3D is on the right. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

#3 Apple Maps. I'm sure there's been many complaints about the maps.
A little background information for those who don't know (though it's blaringly obvious), Google and Apple are competitors. However, it has gone to a point whereby it's directly affecting the consumer!

They've removed the Youtube App (thankfully youtube has released an app of its own so we can replace the app) and changed the Google Maps that we've all gotten used to to their own Apple Maps!

Now, Apple Maps are considered infants when you compare it to the old and experienced Google in the field of Maps. However, there's no replacement currently for the maps app.
I don't usually use the maps, as I don't drive (yet) and I take public transport.
However, when I need to go to a certain destination that I have never been to before, I use the Maps!
The google maps were more detailed as compared to the blocks I'm seeing now on the screen.

There is a perk, however!
When you search for a destination on the new Maps, you can click "Start" and it'll give you turn-by-turn directions to your destination! JUST LIKE A GPS.
And they are amazingly accurate! Just tried it today as my dad drove the family for dinner.
Clear, concise and to the point.
However, if you don't drive, this update is useless.

This is getting to be a rather lengthy blog post, so I'm just gonna highlight the changes! Haha

#4 Dialpad and Music's look has changed. I think it's just to suit the new look of the iPhone 5

#5 App Store has changed. Now this I hate, because I've finally gotten used to the App Store and they CHANGED IT! *RAGES* haha. Also, when you search for something, you can't see a few options with one look, you have to scroll manually one by one, which I find annoying and time consuming.

#6 You no longer need to enter your password when you update an app you already own. Now this is an ingenious idea that took them 6 iOS updates to realise. Lol.

#7 Assistive Touch is no longer restricted to the 4 spaces on the left and right. Also, Siri has replaced the useless Gestures option that nobody I know has figured out what it was for!

#8 Do Not Disturb. Now, I initially downloaded the update because it seemed extremely cool. After using it, I realized its use - USELESS. Why, you may ask. Well, when you activate it, no calls except the ones on your favourites list can get through. So you get a peaceful night's sleep. However, what if the call is important? Ah, Apple thought of that, so they created this "Repeated Calls" Function, whereby if the caller calls you within 3 mins of the next call, your call will be put through!
So you're thinking it sound great right? Well, it's a PR statement, of course it sounds great!
After testing it out with a friend, I certified that it was crap. Why?
When the function is switched on, a crescent moon icon is displayed next to the time, to indicate that it is on.
So I used my friend's mobile to call mine. The call didn't even ring on her end, it just displayed "User Busy".
Which is the case right? HOWEVER.
When you call someone the first time and the call fails, what do you do? YOU CALL THEM AGAIN! There was no indication whatsoever to the caller that the do not disturb mode was on! Within 3 minutes the call will go through!
Furthermore, Apple phones have had a history of dropped calls so there's no surprise that the caller will call again! So, what's the point of the Do Not Disturb? :(
This is how the old answering system looked like!

You slide up the call like you do for the camera

#9 Rejecting people has become easier with the new reject function. You used to have to either hit the power button twice or the home button twice or some sort of magic trick to reject calls. With the iOSs 6, its much easier! Haha!

#10 Settings is screwed up. In terms of it's placement, I mean. Location Services is now located behind privacy! You now have to relearn everything!

[edit] I just realised there's an 11 I forgot to add! Haha.
The 11th is....

#11 You no longer have to go to photos to attach an image to your email! It used to be such a hassle, especially if you blogshop frequently like me and the sellers want you to attach an image to your original email but you can't so you have to go home, plug in your phone and attach the photo! Well, now you can!

I think <s>10</s> 11 is enough for you to ponder about for now. There's more on the way! Stay tuned for Part 2! :)
