Do you have the same pet peeve as me, when you see a notification on Facebook you'll wanna open the app just to get rid of the notification?
Usually it's one of these three things:
- Game request
- Game request
- Genuine comment
Decided to write this short but sweet post about how to turn off Facebook notifications. Many of you may not realize that there's this function on Facebook! Here to spread the love :)
For your own posts, there's only one option, you'll notice that there's only one option, next to the thumbnail of the post. This is the read option. It means it will no longer be bold/darkened when you load Facebook.
Usually, once you click the link, it'll fade to a normal colour like the picture below.
This is useful when you don't have the time/or inclination to want to open the post, but still want to get rid of the notification!
YOU CAN TURN OFF THE NOTIFICATION!
And the best part is, once you turn off the notifications, THEY'RE GONE FOR GOOD. FOREVAH.
Now, that I've solved your issue with game requests (and if that's all you're here for, goodbye and have fun!), I'm gonna explain a little about "following", to elaborate on the above when I said I follow Mi Singapore.
Now, Facebook pages for business are there for a reason. They wanna engage with us, the consumers. So, what would attract you to like a page? To get updates from a certain brand, for example, I am a fan of Starbucks Singapore, Forever21 and H&M Singapore, to name a few. You'll notice that they are all global brands and also thus, have a strong presence on social media.
In case I lost any of you, it means that they'll POST PROMOTIONS ON THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE! Sometimes, it's an exclusive promotion for their Facebook fans, just like Starbucks Singapore did a few weeks ago.
But how to ensure that you'll definitely see the promotions? That's when the following option comes into play. A little like online stalking but good for your wallet (and no chance of getting a restraining order, heh) (Sorry, watched too much Stalker. Quite good btw)
You go to your brand's page (I chose Starbucks cos CHRISTMAS DRINKS! CHRISTMAS! TOFFEE NUT LATTE! (Frappucino cos I'm in Singapore and it's too damned hot for a Latte haha) Hahahaha.
You click on the Follow option (highlighted in blue!)
And, TADAAAAA! You're actively following this Page, and will get notifications when they post! This ensures that you see their posts on your newsfeed. It doesn't mean that you get notifications when they post tho (like I do with Mi Singapore).. There's a second step!
You hover over your "liked" option and click the drop-down arrow as follows:
And you click the "Get Notifications" option! Simple as that!
I follow Mi Singapore because of their lunchtime sales, their powerbanks may be a little heavy but definitely worth the value! My dad recommended it to me, and in turn, I recommended it to my friends and colleagues, which is good and bad. Good cos they're saving money too, bad cos now I'm the one having to camp to buy the damned powerbanks online (you lazy bums you! *shakes fist* HAHA I KID I KID)
But anyway, they sell out faster than Road Runner on steroids, so I started to follow them to get updates on when they'll have sales again.
Hope this post has been informative! If this post has helped you, do let me know by leaving a comment! :)
Enjoy your games-request-free Facebook! :)
Cheers,

Cheers,
