Last days of being 21

So it's not even supposed to be a big deal - literally like no one even gives a damn.

BUT I DO. Haha.

So, turning 22 in a few weeks (days? time passes by so fast these days), and I'm gradually feeling it.
I've officially joined the workforce, leaving my student days behind. And it feels so out of sync, cos for the first time, I'm not IN sync w people my age. My male friends have only just started uni (thanks for serving the nation~) and female friends are only now graduating.

Me? I was unofficially done with uni mid June last year, so it has been a full year of being student-less/free.

This song is gonna be so overplayed this year for those born in '93 LOL

It's a little weird. My entire life (as far as I recall), I've been a student. When I turned 14, I went to do part-time work like most kids do nowadays to get a little pocket money.

And it's strange not having to do two things at once. When I was studying, working was an indulgence. I could choose to prioritise school over work (and you always should, unless you don't have a choice), but the fact of the matter was that I had stuff to choose from. Now, I'm contractually bound to show up for work, there's no such thing as thinking of ponning work HAHA (not that I would, #justsaying y'know)

And like life, with time, things usually get harder (unfortunately). Take skipping classes as an example. In poly, skipping a class or two doesn't have any tremendous impact. You get your friend to cover for you, and you can (usually) catch up on the lecture/tutorial you missed.

In uni, it's a totally different ballgame. Miss one lecture or even fail to just do a reading? You might as well be on a raft out at sea without a compass, cos you'll be clueless and direction-less. And if you don't get back on course soon, you'll be stranded forever!!!

At work, it's even worse. Thinking about going on holiday? Sure, you've got the funds and the time (if you have applied for leave). But, you now have to handover your work. And if you're in a industry/field where you need to be contactable at all times, then even on holiday you can't be unplugged.

Which is the point of my post, I guess. I want to be unplugged.

Walk down a street/mall most places in Singapore and what do you see? Throngs of people with their friends or family. About half of them would be on their phones.

This is even more prevalent at restaurants/eating places. While waiting for the food, I think it's the best time to be catching up with each other and about your lives? But some choose to use the time to use the phone. I try not to judge/blame them, cos everyone has their reasons. Perhaps it's an emergency at work, or a personal emergency? Maybe it's just too awkward at the table and the best thing they can do is to ignore the awkward silence by using their phones? Unless you are a participant at that table that you're judging, you never know the true story.

Mind you, it's just my personal opinion, and not like some statistic etc. If you agree with me, I'd like to recommend this game I saw/heard somewhere but can't recall now.

TOUCH PHONE, PAY BILL > of course I came up with this terrible (punny?) title LOL.
Basically, all the participants' phones are stacked in the centre of the table. The first person to grab their phone from the stack will foot the bill for the entire table. If the meal ends without the phones being touched, the game ends! (Disclaimer: I've suggested this to friends/family before, but have always been met by glares; so I've never actually successfully played this haha)

Anyway, on to happier news. I'll be seeing this view the day after I turn 22! Wooooooooooo~~~
Has anyone wondered that the Opera House looks a lil like Sonic the Hedgehog?

I'll be travelling for work, not play, but I'll get one day ish of sightseeing, so I'm gonna make the most of it! So so happy it's gonna be winter, I can dig out the winter clothes I put in storage (and bought recklessly) when I was in New York and Tokyo over this winter.

Just a short update on how life has been, and couple of nonsensical rambles. I'm glad I am naturally curious, and always want to ask why? Makes life so much more interesting that way, don't you think? ;)

100th post + Hiatus (sorta) ends

I'm back! For the 100th post.
Haha. I'm typing this in class (sorry), finally I have the chance to blog!

Wow, just checked the blog and THE LAST POST WAS IN MAY and I promised to review Fast & Furious 6 HAHA omg please don't hate me.
I'm sure y'all watched it anyway, its action + comedy. Actmedy? Okay nevermind.
My rating is 4/5 though, was gonna give it 4.5 but END THE SERIES ALREADY hahaha.

In the past 4 months, I've
- ended my internship at nEbO
- started my first ever full-time job as a community manager
- started university (RMIT if anyone's interested)
- TURNED TWENTY (haha like this is the most important LOL)
- got my first credit card (MUST. RESIST. TEMPTATION)

Working and studying at the same time was not something I thought I'd be doing when I was younger, but life's like this~ It may be tiring, but when I feel really depressed and stressed out (happened quite a few times since I started work :(), I'd think of resigning and the repercussions that would follow.

I'm quite glad that I'm paying my own school fees, turning twenty and being able to lift that financial burden from my family feels great. It may be tough at times, but the reward at the end is worth it.

Sometimes I regret growing up too fast. All my life I've always wanted to grow up, but now that I'm here, I wanna go back. I'm sure most of the adults feel this way. But I really want to go back. There are so many things I've not done yet that I can blame on being young and irresponsible! NUUUU.

Serious matters aside, working + studying has led me to very little time for meeting up with my friends. With different schedules, it's extremely difficult to meet up sometimes.
But. I'm helping Kel out when he has sudden plans. So yay, social interaction! Haha. Gonna catch The Phantom of the Opera this weekend. A musical every year!

Trying to decide if I should schedule some lunch time muay thai, there's a place near my office, but there are days where I'm so behind with work that I work through lunch. I kinda miss the exercise though, after my hectic weekdays I usually go home and K.O

Okay, gotta pay attention to class now. Will try to update more often! Tried a few new food places and I have pictures, will put them up!

My Instagram's more updated, you can follow me here ;) @bitesizedkay

An update from beneath the pile

I have not been updating AT ALL - for a good reason.

I've always wanted to try events work, so I headed off to nEbO for a 3 month internship to learn.
And boy, am I learning.

I plunged into this world with eyes wide open, and still I often am astonished at what I do.
There's really just so much.
In recollection, working at CCom was so much easier.

There's been nothing much, what's worth updating was sending my friends around on Tuesday and Wednesday.
That is worth a blogpost of its own, so I shall do that... when I have time.

Time. What a precious commodity. Often underestimated, and never able to get back.

Life in general

New nails for this week heh

Everyone's been busy these few weeks, myself included because it was Open House period for polytechnics! That meant scheduling Facebook posts, ensuring we had accurate and up-to-date content, and essentially making our social media presence known.

As usual, didn't take care of myself well and fell sick on Sunday. I got medical leave for the past two days which I feel really guilty about, cos there were reports due.
I'm finishing one as I type this, waiting for additional information that C4SM can provide me with before submitting it to my supervisor.

Been feeling like life has no meaning cos now I have no goal in life. I don't know if I can even make it into Uni, or if I even want to. Found a part-time one online but the hours are seriously a killer.

And if I go out into the workforce, what position should I apply for? And where?
I have no idea what I want to do with life. And that's sad.
CNY is coming up. I'm looking forward to it simply because there's nothing much in my life to look forward to, now.

I want to be a little kid again, where all I had to do was worry if I made it home in time for my favourite cartoons.

Licensed... to drive

Finally got my driving license after a whole year of learning how to drive!

I'm the proud owner of a class 3 driving license.
Thanks to my dad's car, which has a manual transmission, I got a manual license!
Many people I know get auto licenses nowadays.
I wish I could get one too!
Haha.

I'm apprehensive and excited at the same time on being on the road.
I wish I lived in a country where most people drive.
Unlike in Singapore, its cheaper to take public transport.
I wish I drove everyday so that I would get used to it and not freak out everytime I take the wheel haha.

It will happen one day! :)

I'm having my internship now, all the way til 15 Feb 2013.
Back in school, in case anyone is wondering, but I'm with SP's Corporate Communications!
All the way at Admin Building, so anyone with a car.... HAHA.

Work's been great, the long hours and little pay isn't of course, but that's #lifeofanintern
We get paid with what we learn at work.
Which is quite a lot, and I'm grateful for that.
I try my best to meet my friends weekly, their schedules permitting.
My clique is mostly in school so I see them often.
Especially as its the holidays now and FC6 is closed haha for them.
They've to travel all the way down for lunch lol.

Well, it's time to get back to work.
Til next time, when there's something more interesting in my life to interest anybody haha.

Internship week numero uno.

my motivational desk at work :)

It's the third day of internship, and i think my body's slowly getting used to the routine.
I've been on time, please let me maintain this. HAHA.
I'm actually early enough so that I have time to take a 20 minute stroll before work. AHHA
Naw I buy breakfast.
Internship routine is good for me in the sense whereby I can take my meds at a reasonable timeframe for the 12 hour cycle.
and not eat food at midnight haha!

Work's been monotonous, writing articles constantly.
I didn't think that I'd be doing so much writing though :/
Using a five year old square fujitsu laptop, hah.
It's so old, there isn't even a web cam built in!
I'm appreciating my laptop at home a lot more now.
This laptop's lighting is terrible.
The light is yellowish.
I'm afraid it's gonna make my eyesight deteriorate though.
Anyone?

I've just been sluggish at work and out of it.
I have so little spare time to do anything.
How does the workforce do it?
Oh by the way, my working hours are 8.30 - 6pm.
Extremely long sitting hours, sigh
Need to find a way to work out!

Before internship started, I was thinking of jogging everyday when I get home.
But I'm so freakishly tired despite not doing much physical activity!
Ugh.

COMEX 2012!

So I worked the COMEX 2012 show this year.
Ming wanted to do it and I was all why not so I went.
The first two days were terrible. the sales was awful and the manager was so stressful.
But the sales in the last two days were worth it.
I sold SAMSUNG laptops this time round.
Finally understand the difference between notebook and laptop.
Dear readers. THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE.
There is a difference between an Ultrabook, Notebook and Netbook.
That's all there are in the market right now anyhoo.
Learned many useful things about laptops.
Please let it come in handy when I purchase one for uni.
Made new friends, only few that matters haha.
The last hour of the show was eventful for me and the new friend Siwen.
But running away helps me haha.
Though her texts make me feel as if I should have stayed. haha.
It's been an emotional roller coaster especially, with the mood swings and all.
They're really unexplainable.

Thanks Ming for comforting me after I cried. *hugs*

Tomorrow's the final driving test, known as TP (Traffic Police).
I really really wanna pass it in one shot.
Please let me pass it in one shot.
Please.

That's all for now.
A happy post tomorrow, that's all I ask for.

Sick for five days straight

Have been sick from Friday up till now.
stuck cooped up at home during the first few days of my holiday, what a nightmare.
Went to the clinic on Friday.
The doctor told me that feeling light-headed and dizzy was a result of my fever.
He then prescribed me with a antibiotic that i had severe side effects to.
So I went back to ask him to change the prescription.
Granted, he didn't know because I didn't tell him.
I forgot!
I took that anti-biotic the last time and had severe nausea and diarrhea.
I stopped taking it, and also forgot to note down the name of the drug.
Forgetful me!
So, I paid the price by waiting for the doctor to come back from his lunch break.
And I was freezing cold but I didn't bring a jacket. win.
So i got my meds re-prescribed,
and i went to collect them. So many of them.
Reached home around 2plus, took my meds and slept for an hour.

Only slept an hour cos I had to go to school!
Even though it was the last day of school, I had a presentation that I couldn't miss!
My History Of Film :(
So I went.
I love my class, all of them asked me if I was okay.
Although of course I did look sick, being pale and all that.
Went for MMR cos Ms Lum tweeted that she missed me! Awwwwww :P
So I presented for CDF (Certificate of Digital Film) for my History of Film module.
Then I went to the GenEd Forum that was being held at MLT 8.

By invitation only, heh, and being one of the top two MMR teams, we were invited.
And my dad urged me to go too, as there was Nicole Seah from the NSP speaking there.
So I went. I was curious!
But I missed her speech cos I was presenting. It started at 5.15 and we ended at 5.45.
Sigh.
So I stayed till 6.45 till I really couldn't take it, I was trembling in the LT.
I went home and slept with my contacts in for more than 12 hours.
I totally forgot to remove them!

I've been wearing contacts since I was 13, and I'm 18 (soon) now.
5 years, and I've never forgotten to remove them.
This is a testament to how sick I was! :O
So I had a fever for the first day,
and 40degree fever for the next 3 days, AFTER taking that infernal doctor's medication.
Which made me feel like vomiting the whole time.
But I resisted vomiting my meds cos then what's the point of taking them? :)

When Monday arrived and I still wasn't well, I was pissed.
I told my mom that.
She asked if I wanted to go see another doctor,
and I agreed.
I honestly felt on the brink of death.
It hurt like hell to swallow.
I have large tonsils, and this makes me prone to infections.
So I usually have tonsillitis.
This time round, it was far too long for my usual bout.
So I went to see another doctor for a second opinion.

By the time I went to see the second doctor, it was Monday night as I missed the previous consultation hour by 15 mins ._.
But man, this doctor is GOOD.
He was my family doctor (more on that next time, this is already a very wordy post :O)
And he diagnosed my condition right on the spot.

Turns, out, I had pus on my tonsils.
I know, right. PUS. ew.
He gave me anti-biotics, and medicine to reduce the swelling! (which the ass of a doc previously didn't prescribe ._.) and meds for my runny nose and phlegm. And lozenges that I'd actually suck on.

Essentially, I got better in a day after this doctor gave me the meds.
I am alive and blogging about this, instead of lying in a hospital bed.
His anti-biotic worked, the pus is (almost gone)
One more dose to go and its all gone!
YAY *happy dance*

Had work today, gawd, i hate the sales period.
That's all I'm gonna say on the subject :)

Going to do photography for nEbO for YES 2011 at NUS tomorrow,
and my class BBQ on sat! :)
I'm really looking forward to that!
I wanted to stay over but they planned another friend's birthday on the same day ._.
So I'm gonna have to leave early. :(
But I'll go early to make up for it!

Alright, time for bed!
And kudos to you if you've made it this far down my super long and wordy post!

Xoxo,
Kayleen (who's recovering!)
